✈️ Travel Van Building Assistance

Eric has begun putting his skills to work as a traveling van builder to fill the gap between professional builders and full DIY folk.  DIY builders may want help for a number of reasons.  Maybe they want someone with experience to help with specific, high consequence tasks such as electrical and heaters, or maybe just cutting the first big hole in your brand new van.  Maybe they just want a jump start to their progress because life is busy and they want to get out on the road sooner.

Whatever your reason, whatever your timeline, and whatever your budget we are here to help you.

How To Book With Us For Travel Van Building

To book a travel van build gig, simply reach out to us and let us know where you are. We are aiming to pick up clients along our travel route, but even if you are not in our direct path there is a chance we could still detour out, so don’t hesitate to reach out on Instagram, or via email.

2024: We are currently based in Summit and Lake County (Greater Denver Area) but are happy to travel when appropriate.

Our Work Philosophy

We believe in providing DIY folk the best bang for their buck.  Rather than going through the extensive process of putting a bid together for a project and building in overhead, we operate under a flat hourly rate structure.  We understand that each DIY van build is unique and that each persons work space will be different.  Because of those factors, it is impossible to accurately judge these DIY projects in advance. Our promise to you is that we will work as hard as we can in our allotted time, getting everything done as is possible.

We do ask that all clients commit to at least 20 hours of our time, but that give us an approximate total they are seeking.  We will go over what projects you are looking to complete, your desired timeline, and ensure you have all of the materials and tools on hand before work begins.  We will collect a 20% deposit 30 days before work starts.  Work days will be flexible and dependent upon the tasks being done and everyone’s schedule.  I believe in efficiency, and if a task only takes 6 hours, I’m not going to twiddle my thumbs for 2 hours throughout the day to “make it a full day”.  I would rather go for a run or a ski in those two extra hours.  Likewise, if we’re cranking away at a project and it’s going to take 10 hours, that’s okay too because sometime stopping and restarting is a huge waste of overall time.

One of the most unique ways that we operate is that we can work as independently as necessary, but also incorporate you into the build process to whatever degree you wish.  Teaching valuable building skills and doing the work yourself is great for your overall and final understanding of your rig.  Have you ever heard of a professional builder letting you work alongside them??

Do you like our philosophy and think there is a chance our route will intersect with your van build?  Drop us and email and we can see if timing works out!

Why work with The Engineers who Van Life?

TLDR; We’ve either seen (or done) it all when it comes to DIY van building, and we truly want to help make your process easier.

As engineers, well, we love to learn deeply and approach everything from a technical mindset.  We apply the same principle to building camper van conversions.  Instead of simply “doing”, we strive to understand everything fully and of course, share that understanding with you.  We have DIY-ed 2 of our own camper van conversions, helped with 5+ travel van builds, and consulted with over 50 DIY van build clients.  If we haven’t personally done something in one of our van builds, we have seen it with a client and have worked to understand it just as deeply as if it were our own conversion van build.

There is no problem too big, or too small, and we encourage you to reach out if you are feeling stuck on any portion of your van build process from planning, to electrical, and beyond.

Reviews from Previous Clients:

“This was our first time converting a van and we found all of Engineers who Van Life’s resources invaluable throughout the process. With so much information freely available we hesitated paying for a consultation at first but the value Eric provided far exceeded the cost. We used our consultation to review our electrical plans and had so much peace of mind after chatting everything through and learning more from Eric. It was hands down worth the cost and more! If you need to review any components of your build you’re hesitant on or are just looking to chat more in depth definitely book a consultation. “

“Caught in a pinch being new to van life and my van as well, Eric was able to guide me through a video call on options to resolve my issue.  I work for the federal government and am unable to use public WiFi for my computer.  He outlined clearly for me what my two options were in order to be able to work from my van. I had made a plan in advance but did not realize it would not work for me in the mountains of southern California.  I highly recommend Eric and EngineersWhoVanLife to anyone dealing with IT issues or any other van issues.  Quick response, reasonable price, and most importantly knowledgeable folks.”

“I consulted twice- 1 hour each time about my pending DIY camper van conversion. Eric was very knowledgeable and answered all of questions completely. After each consultation he provided many follow up resources by email. I found each consultation to be very helpful. I strongly recommend this van life consultation service. After I finish a book I purchased about camper van electrical systems I will consult with this service again before buying batteries and electrical components for my electrical system.”

“Eric and Colby have been indispensable in my vanlife journey. I’ve utilized their one-on-one calls several times, from planning a headliner shelf to installing my water filter to repairing electrical issues. They’re responsive, knowledgeable, and creative in their solutions. I love that they both help me understand the what, how, and why of each step as I improve my tiny home on wheels!”
